Aiva

This week I'm going to be posting some video's that Aiva took this weekend. She absolutely loves to be in front of a camera. She loves to sing and perform. She just told me that she wants to be a makeup song artist when she grows up!! Sounds like something I might have come up with when I was her age. I could twirl and sing for hours and so can she! For Christmas we gave Aiva her own MP3 with headphones and she could listen to it all day if we let her. She cracks me up...I really love that girl! This is a picture of her and her uncle Steve, along with Mr. Mouse from "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie". This Friday she received the book in a bag, which she's supposed to take a picture of her and Mr. Mouse along with an activity that they did that night/weekend. Hers was going out to pizza with Uncle Steve. She had a blast and is still talking about Uncle Steve coming to see her.
Can't wait to share with you some of Aiva's latest singles!

Honey

The past two days have been some what of a challenge for Ana as she's been doing a lot of coughing. With her having asthma it doesn't help matters. Last night her cough medicine nor the inhaler were working so I had to do some research to figure out how I could get this girl to stop coughing adn so we could all get some sleep. What I found out was very interesting. Here's this clip from the Mayo Clinic:

"Now researchers are studying honey as a cough suppressant. In a 2007 study, children ages 2 and older with upper respiratory tract infections were given up to 2 teaspoons (10 milliliters) of honey at bedtime. The honey seemed to reduce nighttime coughing and improve sleep. In fact, in the study, honey appeared to be as effective as the cough suppressant dextromethorphan in typical over-the-counter doses."

After reading this I thought I had to at least give it a try. As soon as Ana heard that honey was like sugar she was all for it. I gave it to her at 9:30PM and she was asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. She didn't cough until 4AM. At 4AM, I gave her some Motrin for her fever and another teaspoon of honey and she was back to sleep in no time. She didn't start coughing again til 9AM! Problem solved...at least while she's sleeping. Not only did she get a good nights rest but the rest of the family did to!

Thoughts

This weekend I finally had a chance to finish "The Makers Diet" and I must admit that my sister in law was right. It is kind of far out there and you can't adopt everything that's in the book so you have to pick and choose what works best for you and your family. It does have a lot of good concepts so I'm totally not telling anyone not to read it. Here are a few things that caught my attention before I do a recap with what changes we are taking from it.

-One of the most important fats are the omega 3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil or ocean caught fish.

-The Makers Diet focuses on the balanced intake of natural fats occurring in ocean caught fish, cod liver oil, grass fed, organic and free-range meats. It also includes animal products such as butter, cheeses, and full-fat lacto-fermented dairy products such as yogurt and kefir, as well as raw milk and cream from goats, sheep, cows, and other biblically clean animals.

-Always choose butter over margarine or other low fat spreads.

- For those who don't get enough cold water fish, you need to take a form of high quality fish oil every day. Helps to thin the blood, inhibits blood clots, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes, Lupus. Relieves migraines, fight inflammation, helps regular the immune system, and much much more.

-Grapes were the first crop planted by Noah after the flood. Grapes fight tooth decay, stop viruses and are rich in other ingredients that many researchers believed may lower the risk of cancer.

-Rest is crucial to the health of your body and soul. Sleep is an absolute and undeniable necessity of life.

- Learn to breath from your gut.
